Kenneth Frank Bradshaw was born in Caliente, Nevada on September 19, 1951. Kenny grew up in Lincoln County. He attended elementary school in Caliente and Alamo and graduated from Lincoln Co. High School in Panaca.
He was a police officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for 24 years.
In 1978 Kenny was in an auto accident that almost took his life. He spent months in the hospital and more months in rehab recovering. From then on he lived with chronic pain.
Kenny was an avid outdoorsman and after his retirement from Metro he spent a lot of time in California. He kept bees and was a member of Bee Wranglers of America. He was also a member of the NRA. He loved gardening and grew delicious fruits and vegetables, which he shared with friends and neighbors. He was a skilled welder and blacksmith, as well as a craftsman. He liked to hunt and fish but the last few years he really enjoyed taking his metal detector out into the mountains and desert. He also liked to dredge streams for gold but never struck it rich. While in California he met Marilyn Carlson, or Cookie as she is known. They became good friends and because Cookie also loved the outdoors, they did many things together.
In March of this year Kenny was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. He underwent a craniotomy, but the surgeons were unable to excise the whole tumor. They told us his condition was terminal and that he would probably live no more than 22 years. He spent six months in various hospitals recovering and learning how to walk, talk and eat again. While he was in the hospital Cookie visited him almost every day. She probably didnt miss more than 5 or 6 days the entire 6 months he was hospitalized, even though it often meant driving 40 miles one way to see him. We can never repay her for her love, loyalty and support.
In September, when he had recovered enough to leave the hospital, he was brought to his sisters home in Henderson where he was loved and cared for by family until his death. Sheri Cox, a lifelong friend, was often with him and he looked forward to her visits. We are grateful for her love and support. We were not prepared to lose Kenny so soon, but he is no longer suffering or in pain and we know that he is at peace. We are grateful for that and for the years we had with him. During the time Kenny was in the hospital and after he came home, he heard often from many of his friends and though he had great difficulty speaking, knowing they cared meant a lot to him.
Kenny had a beautiful smile and was loving, sweet, kind, and gentle. He was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
