Lawrence Gordon
A.K.K G-PA
Lawrence was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 7, 1954, the son of the late Isador and Ruth Gordon. Lawrence was led to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Faithful Service Missionary Baptist Church of Los Angeles. He graduated from Crenshaw High School in 1972 and was certified in auto mechanics. Throughout his high school years, Lawrence was a passionate athlete and enjoyed playing varsity football. He played the flute and was a member of the Crenshaw Cougar marching band.
After high school Lawrence entered the workforce at Brooks Oldsmobile of Hollywood, Ca. He remained there until he entered the Armed Services in 1977. While in the United States Army, Lawrence received training in heavy construction equipment and primary leadership development. During his tenure in the Army, Lawrence became a Sergeant at Arms and received the following military honor awards; Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal 3rd Class, Army Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal 5th Award, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Marksmanship Badge for Grenade, Expert Marksmanship Badge for Rifle and Retirement Lapel Button. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1994. After serving his country, Lawrence moved to Las Vegas where he worked for the state of Nevada for 16 years, as a heavy equipment operator.
Lawrence was the proud father of two sons, Lawrence Gordon Jr (Linda Smith, Mom) and Lawrence Gordon II (Deborah Spencer, Mom). While in the military he met and fell in love with Julia Lockhart. They tied the knot on September 3rd, 1988. To this union, they became the proud parents of Leah Michelle and Lawrence Jared Gordon.
A true humanitarian Lawrence volunteered his services to anyone in need. As a dedicated member of the Family Worship Center he carried out the commandment to help all in need.
Obituary
Lawrence also known as ""G-PA"" exemplified many fine qualities. He was a wonderful father a faithful and loving husband, and awesome son, a remarkable brother, a patient uncle a kind cousin and a very loyal friend. He enjoyed watching movies, playing dominos, cards, music and dancing. Cooking meals for the family was one of his favorite pastimesâ¦especially grilling ribs and frying turkeys. He was the Kool Aid master. His culinary expertise was greatly received by many and his food was simply DELICIOUS!
On January 15, 2019 Lawrence was in the comfort of his home surrounded by loved ones when he received the call to glory for a job well done. He was preceded in death by his father Isador Gordon, his mother Ruth Beasley, his sisters Veronica Ann Gordon and Lillie Gordon, and his brother Gregory Gordon.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his wife Julia Gordon and four children; Lawrence Gordon Jr., Lawrence Gordon II, Leah Michelle Gordon-Taylor (Hakeem Taylor), Lawrence Jarred Gordon; three grandchildren, Jeremiah Gordon, I'llyonna Michelle Taylor and Hakeem Taylor Jr.; five sisters, Rosemary Saulsberry of Las Vegas (John Saulsberry), Valarie Ndukwu and Debra Beasley of Las Vegas, Michelle Beasley of San Bernardino and Gloria Gordon (Mussy) of Wisconsin; six brothers, Morris Henry Gordon of New Orleans (Gloria Gordon), Reynard Gordon of Arizona, Ronald Gordon of California, Isador Gordon, Willie Harold Gordon, James Gordon of Wisconsin and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
