Lawrence was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 7, 1954, the son of the late Isador and Ruth Gordon. Lawrence was led to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Faithful Service Missionary Baptist Church of Los Angeles. He graduated from Crenshaw High School in 1972 and was certified in auto mechanics. Throughout his high school years, Lawrence was a passionate athlete and enjoyed playing varsity football. He played the flute and was a member of the Crenshaw Cougar marching band.
After high school Lawrence entered the workforce at Brooks Oldsmobile of Hollywood, Ca. He remained there until he entered the Armed Services in 1977. While in the United States Army, Lawrence received training in heavy construction equipment and primary leadership development. During his tenure in the Army, Lawrence became a Sergeant at Arms and received the following military honor awards; Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal 3rd Class, Army Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal 5th Award, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Marksmanship Badge for Grenade, Expert Marksmanship Badge for Rifle and Retirement Lapel Button. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1994. After serving his country, Lawrence moved to Las Vegas where he worked for the state of Nevada for 16 years, as a heavy equipment operator.
Lawrence was the proud father of two sons, Lawrence Gordon Jr (Linda Smith, Mom) and Lawrence Gordon II (Deborah Spencer, Mom). While in the military he met and fell in love with Julia Lockhart. They tied the knot on September 3rd, 1988. To this union, they became the proud parents of Leah Michelle and Lawrence Jared Gordon.
A true humanitarian Lawrence volunteered his services to anyone in need. As a dedicated member of the Family Worship Center he carried out the commandment to help all in need.
