Lea E. Barnett was born on May 26, 1937 in Richton, Mississippi. She was the fifth child of nine children born to Steve Queen E. Barnett. At the age of six, she was allowed to live with Mrs. Carrie Sykes, who was widowed and had no children. Mrs. Sykes help raise her until she completed high school.
Lea began her education in Richton Mississippi were she graduated from Richton Colored High School with high honors. In 1957, Lea moved to San Francisco, CA with her first husband, Zattis Hines Woullard and to this union two sons were born. She later married second husband, Lonzo Moore in 1964 no children were born to this union. In 1971, she partnered with Bill Estell in which a daughter was born to this union. Lea moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1998 where she spent the remaining of her days with her loving daughter.
Lea was a very spiritual person who loved the Lord and believed in word of God. Lea was one of those rare people with a kind spirit and a gentle heart. She was generous, independent, business minded, professional, smart, fearless, creative and funny. Some of Leas joys in life where spending time with family, hosting parties, cooking, reading, and shopping. As a loving mother, Lea always made sure her children knew the importance of family, honor, hard work, and determination of which she showed by example.
Lea leaves to cherish her memories her three children a loving and devoted daughter, Candace EstellValmore, two sons Jackie Woullard and Donald Zattis Woullard. Her siblings: two sisters, Mrs. Lula Hickman, Oakland CA Ms. Olevia Barnett, Wilmington, NC two brothers, Mr. Joe Luis Barnett, Wilmington, NC Mr. Roosevelt Sutton, Spring Lake, NC Her grandchildren: Jackson Woullard, Jacob Woullard, Aeryn Lea Woullard, Donald Zattis Woullard Jr, and Devon Woullard, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
At a blessed age of 74, God called her home after a very long and active life. Although she entered into an eternal peaceful rest on Saturday, August 20, 2011, Lea lived a life that truly was blessed and highly favored. She will live on in the hearts and memories of all those who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Queen E. Barnett four sisters Ms. Rosa Lee Barnett, Mrs. Georgia Westry, Mrs. Annie L. Bolton, and Mrs. Leola Bethea and one brother Steve Barnett Jr.
