On June 17, 2024, the world lost a beloved soul with the passing of Leon (Lee) Carter Askew II of Las Vegas, NV. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 16, 1958, to Leon Carter Askew I and Betty Louise Askew, Lee's legacy will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate to know him.
Lee’s childhood was guided by a fascination with and a curiosity for learning that ultimately became his lifelong pursuit and mastery. He was baptized in his youth and imbued with the teachings of Jehovah. Lee’s life was defined by kindness, a gentle manner, and an aspiration to serve others.
Lee was a graduate of the prestigious Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, the highest-ranked school in Maryland. This education served as the foundation for Lee’s lifelong business savviness in disciplines of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). He also led his High School team to second place victory during the “Jeopardy Style” show, “It’s Academic” on WJZB TV in Baltimore.
Throughout his life, Lee's talents extended far beyond the realm of business. An accomplished jazz musician, he graced stages around the world with renowned artists, like the Flamingos and the Jazz Crusaders, showcasing his exceptional talent and dedication to his music. His work as a music engineer, producer, and consultant left an indelible mark on the industry, and earned him the distinguished Washington Area Music Award.
Lee is survived by his parents, Leon Carter Askew I and Betty Louise Askew, loving spouse, Dr. Faye Robinson Davis, his son Jeriel Askew, his grandchildren London, Grace, and Bellamy, as well as his siblings Karen James, Mark Askew (Brenda), and Stephanie Marshall. His memory will be cherished by all who were touched by his kindness and generosity.
A funeral service to honor the life of Leon (Lee) Carter Askew II will be held on Friday, July 19, at 10:30 am at Davis Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 6200 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89119. The service will be officiated by Pastor Bruce Robinson of Oakdale, CA, with interment at 12:00 pm at Davis Memorial Park and the Repass to follow at Lindo Michoacan, 2655 E Desert Inn Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89121.
As we bid farewell to an exemplary individual, let us reflect on the lessons taught by Lee's enduring spirit—compassion, creativity, and unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. May you rest in peace, dear Lee, your legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing you.
