LeRoy S. Zaslawsky

LeRoy Seymour Zaslawsky, a retired middle school teacher, passed away Sept. 27, 2011, at the age of 83. LeRoy was born December 25, 1927, in Chicago, to Bella Schechman and Julius Zaslawsky. He was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had a brilliant teaching career in Southern California at Pacoima Junior High School, where he taught English and social studies. He initiated a magnet program during his tenure where his students participated in Shakespeare Festivals and won numerous national awards. He also introduced his innercity students to Italian opera and awarded them with a live performance of La Boheme at the Shrine Auditorium. LeRoy married his beloved sweetheart, Audrey, in 1948. They were happily married for 56 years, a match truly made in Heaven, and only Heaven separated them when Audrey passed away in September 2004. Now LeRoy will be reunited with his beloved again. He is survived by his children, Cheryl Zaslawsky of Menlo Park, Calif., Debra McGuire of Las Vegas grandchildren, James McGuire of Las Vegas and Katy Colleen McGuire, his Irish Princess of Reno son, David Zaslawsky and wife, Tina of Prattville, Ala., Joshua and Zoe Zaslawsky sister, Phyllis Green and brotherinlaw, Roland.
Services will be at 12:40 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd.
