Louis (Phil) Cordova, 83, a 20-year resident of Las Vegas & Henderson passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015. Born in Oakland, CA, the son of the late Manuel and Dolores Cordova. Phil was a member of St. Viator Catholic Parish and a 3rd and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He served in the US Army for 20 years as a combat medic and served in the Vietnam and Korean Wars. He was referred to as Frozen Chosin soilder as he was one of 650 military personal who survived the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea. He received numerous awards, including the Bronze Star with 3 OLC and the Combat Medical Badge with Second award.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 6 sisters. Phil is survived by his wife Carla, daughter Nicole, both of Henderson, NV; daughter and son-in-law Heidi and Michael Strang of Denver, CO, his sister Annie Costa of Honolulu, HI; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Raymond and Debbie Lytle of Tucson, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and Family will be received Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from 4pm to 8pm at Davis Funeral Home , 6200 S. Eastern Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on April 8, 2015 at 10am at St. Viator Catholic Church , 2461 E. Flamingo Road. Interment will follow at Veteranï¿Â½s Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Philï¿Â½s name to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org. The family wishes to thank the medical staff onboard the Ruby Princess and the staff of Amerimed Hospital in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for the care and compassion shown during his medical crisis.
