Louis (Georgakopoulos) George 86, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully at his home on September 16, 2021.
Louis was born on February 25, 1935, in Gerakas, Greece, a small village near Sparta.
He was the firstborn of the late Angelos and Maria Georgakopoulos.
In the 50’s he served in the Greek Merchant Marines, and like many other young men during that time, he chose to emigrate to the United States in search of a better life. He looked forward to settling in the U.S. and becoming a citizen, but never forgot his roots and proud Greek heritage. He first arrived in Haverhill Massachusetts where he met and married the late Sophia Menounos. In 1965 he moved the family to Las Vegas where he started working for a local grocery food chain, eventually working his way up to shift manager. It wasn’t long before his hard work and charisma were noticed and landed him a job in management at a downtown casino, the Four Queens. A few years later he moved to the Flamingo Hilton on the world-famous “Las Vegas Strip”, where he was again promoted to “Pit Boss”. He stayed at the Flamingo until his retirement in 1994. In his retirement years, he enjoyed fishing and traveling throughout the world visiting with family and friends.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Maria George of Las Vegas, his sister Chrysoula Lafkas, her husband George and their children Angelos and Kostas of Athens Greece, his sister Panagiota, her husband John, and their children Sylvia and Dean of Las Vegas. Louis is also survived by his brother Emmanuel Georgakopoulos and his wife Yolanda of Athens Greece, as well as many cousins, grandnieces, and nephews near and far. We also can’t forget to mention his many dear friends he treasured throughout his life.
