Mable Daniels Mickens

December 24, 1961 — November 20, 2021

Mable Magaline Daniels Mickens was born on December 24, 1961, to Alice Ellis and James Daniels in Goldsboro, NC. She grew up in Goldsboro and lived in Seymour Johnson Homes for a number of years but spent many days at 623 S. Slocumb St., her grandmother's house, with her aunts and uncles who were like brothers and sisters to her. She proudly graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1980. In 1988 she relocated to Los Angeles, CA to pursue fashion design and attended Los Angeles Trade-Tech. Although she was 3000 miles away she always remained close to her family and friends through letters and phone calls. She didn't allow distance to be an excuse to not be supportive of her loved ones. She always had a lending hand, a listening ear, and plenty to talk about. Mable loved to talk! Her "3rd shift" conversations have kept people awake at night while they traveled to and from work, giving advice or to talk and reminisce about the past.

Mable was a talented woman who enjoyed making gift baskets, various crafts, sewing, and crocheting. The first crochet hats she made were sold to members of Tabernacle of Prayer for All People. After that, she was on her way selling flower seeds, jewelry, making gifts baskets, and much more. When it came to selling she would say, "They can only tell me yes or no!" She was an entrepreneur before she knew what the word meant. "Use your talent or lose it" is a motto she lived by.

If you've never met someone with two birthdays, Mable would be the first. Being born on Christmas Eve she didn't have many parties or only received one gift. She would say, "They'd say Happy Birthday & Merry Christmas and I would be looking for two gifts but only got one. So I said, I know what I'm about to do. I'm gonna have a second birthday, Valentine's Day. I know somebody giving some candy and cards that day." Family and friends called and wished her a Happy Birthday and gave her a few gifts because they knew she was looking forward to them. Mable was definitely one of a kind.

Mable lived her life accordingly by enjoying family, friends who became family, arts & crafts, music, and having a good time. She always put God first in everything she did. She knew without faith she would not make it and her faith in God grew stronger each day until her departure. Isaiah 54:17- 'No weapon formed against me shall prosper' was one of her favorite bible verses.

Preceded in her death are her parents, Alice and James, sister Rosie Marie, grandmothers Mable Daniels and Magaline Ellis, whom she was named after, her dog's Rage and Corrupt, sister friends Terri Hall (Los Angeles), Addie Diane Thomas, Diane Dawson and Sandra Manley of Goldsboro, NC.

She leaves behind her children Le'Sondra (Keyla), Larry(Pooh) & Al (Lil Al), God-sons, Dominique Jones (Domo), and Dayvion Jones ( Squeaky Jones), God-daughters Alisha McCoy, Alechia Bell, Maria Washington & Mariah Washington. She also leaves behind her precious grandchildren; Khary, Kavonte', Keyon, Kayla, Jayla, Layla, Shayla, Jeremiah, M.J., Keniyah & Kamiyah; great-grandaughter Khloe; her bonus father Walter Artis Jr., brother Corey Artis, sister-in-law Tomeshia, nephews Jahwan & Tyrese, nieces Shakorria & Kytara, great-niece Aubree, great-nephews; Zion, Amir & Jude, Sister-friends; Rhonda Artis, Bernita Newkirk, and Monique Hall, Brother-friends; Cornell 'C-Dog' Bellows and Bobby Washington; God-family Albert Artis Sr. & family, and a host of family & friends whom she loved dearly.
