Our mother, Mariebel, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday April 18th. She had recently struggled with heart and kidney issues, which ultimately led to renal failure. Her illness took her from us far too soon, but it’s a comfort to know she was at least not in pain when she passed.
She was a one-of-a kind mom—unconventional, unique, and truly amazing. She was generous, and she loved deeply, her children most of all. If you knew our mom, your life was definitely impacted by her. Everything she did was huge. Her personality was big. And real spunky. And when she loved or cared about someone, they knew it and felt it.
She was not the most traditional mom, but boy was she cool. When we were growing up, all our friends all thought she was awesome. Many times, We recall beaming with pride about how our mom was the coolest around and could actually hang with us. She was also extremely compassionate. Often, she would feel deeply for someone who struggled, even if she had not known them very long. And she would do anything to help that person she had connected with.
Our mom was a firecracker. It was never boring around her. But despite all the bumpy roads and ups and down of life, never once did we ever question her devotion and love for us. To us, our mom’s love stayed true, even if everything else in the world changed around us. Even if the miles between us grew longer and longer. We are grateful for the deep love and constant devotion she gave us. She left us always feeling safe. Like someone was always going to be on our side no matter what. We will miss her so much. But she will always be in our minds and our hearts, every single day of our lives.
We will take all the amazing things about our mom and live on, letting the good shine through us. Letting her love live through us. We want her to know she was truly loved, and we are grateful that she was our mom. She did an amazing job and we will never forget her. Rest in Peace mom. Things can be easy now. We hope you can travel the universe and we promise to make sure a part of you is always alive in us. You aren’t really gone, and we will see you again one day.
Mariebel will be cremated in accordance with her wishes, and a small memorial will be held in May. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please make a contribution to Make a Wish Foundation in her name.
