Maria Scharff Salas of Piti, Guam passed away on April 29, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born in Piti, Guam to Erig and Isabel Scharff in April 5, 1946. Maria or Babyta, as she was better known to her family and friends, or Marie as she was known in her professional life was a very kind, considerate, caring, and generous to all who knew her. Her beautiful smile and dimples were unforgettable. She left memories not easily forgotten to her children, especially as a military wife, assuming the role of father and mother while dad was away. Babyta had a full career in civil service, retiring as Environmental Specialist, GS-11. She also had an impactful career in the Government of Guam. Assigned by the governor to the Bureau of Women’s Affairs as Chief, she quickly revamped a basically dormant office with conferences, meetings, and resource offices that benefited the women of Guam. She resigned after a devastating accident that left her son, Christopher, a quadriplegic. The impact she left on her husband with her total unquestioning love will forever be in his memories and heart. She was his “right hand” and left a vast void of emptiness in his life.
Babyta was predeceased by her parents, Aunt Basilisa Quenga, brother George, sister Tessie Fejarang, and niece Carmen (Jennifer) Scharff. Babyta is survived by her husband Jesus and children Erica-Michelle and wife Misty, Christopher and wife Desiree’ (Keani Marie), Cary and wife Cinda (Cailene, Camia, and Canoa), and Jeremy and wife Nichole (Maddox). Brother George Scharff (deceased) and wife Carmen Cruz and children: Freddie, Randy and Therese, Judy and Joe Guerrero, George and Maricel, Mark and Val, brother Tony Scharff and wife Benita Palacios (deceased) and daughter: Lynn and Carlton Meanweather, Erig Scharff and wife Terri and children: Leilani and John Lunch, Ericka and Nate Jones, Erline, Becky and Justin Ayers, and sister Tessie (deceased) and Freddie Fejarang and children: Freddie Jr and Jolene, Kevin and Erin, Therese and Terry Daiss, and E.J. and Diana.
