Markus Earl Gallant

Markus Earl Gallant, 27, of Henderson, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, December 5, 2010.
Markus was born May 18, 1983, in Las Vegas, and was a lifelong resident of Las Vegas and Henderson. He attended Basic High School, graduating in 2001. During high school, he served as senior class president, was his schools representative in Boys State, and was a member of Basics golf and soccer teams. He attended both UNR and UNLV, earning his degree in political science.
He was employed as a recreation leader for the City of North Las Vegas, where he managed the Municipal Par 3 Golf Course. Markus was a member of the Southern Nevada Officials Association. He served as a scorer and timer and as an official in basketball and football. He officiated basketball at the high school and college levels and worked playoff and championship games.
His greatest gift in life came from his love, passion and respect for the game and the fellow officials, players, and coaches with whom he worked. They will miss him.

Markus was the ultimate friend. He never said an unkind word to anyone. He accepted others as they were, willing to help and support them no matter what. He was a friends friend. Those that knew him will miss him forever, and they will never forget him.

Markus was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Weldon Jicker and Mae Gallant of Council, Idaho and maternal grandfather, Joseph Joe Markus of Plainview, Minnesota.
Markus is survived by his loving parents, Neil and Gwen Gallant his devoted sister Megan, all of Henderson his maternal grandmother, Joyce Markus of Plainview his aunts and uncles, Earlene and Larry Shelton of Council, Mike and Becky Kanz, Bill and Pat Markus, Judy and Jeff Gair, Robert and Krissie Meller, all of Minnesota and all of his cousins.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2300 Sundridge Heights Parkway in Henderson.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Markuss name to the Betty Ford Foundation, 41990 Cook St., Suite C301, Palm Desert, CA 92211.
