Marlys Kay Baumgartner

February 25, 1950 — March 2, 2020

Marlys Kay Baumgartner, age 70 of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, March 2, 2020. She was born to the late Bill and Marie Tracy on February 25, 1950 in Charles City, Iowa.

Marlys attended Mason City High School where she was a cheerleader and a member of the class of 1968, before attending Iowa State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She married Gene Grosland on August 23, 1969. They later moved to Soda Springs, Idaho where they raised 3 children and she worked as a school teacher.

Marlys later moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina where she married James “Eddie” Baumgartner on December 23, 1996. They enjoyed each other’s company while they travelled the world - living in Daegu, South Korea, then Kapolei, Hawaii, before settling in Las Vegas, Nevada. She adored their chihuahua, Maili, who has been trained as a service dog for Eddie.

Marlys was an educator her whole life. Her greatest achievement was her children - she ensured they had strong educations enabling them to complete their studies at the best of colleges and universities as a spring-board to careers they truly enjoy.

Her family will remember her in our hearts forever. We will always remember her giggle, impish smile, and sweet nature. She was loved by everyone who touched her life. Marlys was always one to stop and smell the roses, enjoy a good conversation and share her infinite love of life.

Marlys is survived by her husband of 24 years, James “Eddie” Baumgartner, daughters Lori Grosland, Angie (Josh) Jones, and son Jason (Beth) Grosland, grandchildren Sophie, Emilia, Ava, and Abby, and sisters Joan Tracy Scharf, Nancy Tracy Davis, and Jean Tracy Hill. Marlys was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Marie Tracy, and her former husband Gene Grosland.
