Mary Lloyd

November 14, 1941 — August 20, 2020

Mary Louise (Webb) Lyon Lloyd, 78, of Las Vegas passed away on August 20, 2020.

Mary was born in Wabash, IN to Morey E Webb and Helen Hanley Webb on November 14, 1941.

Mary graduated from Wabash High School in 1960. She married Donald Lyon in 1961 embarking on a life-long journey of military life.  This journey took Donald and Mary to Air Force bases in Bunker Hill, IN, Germany, California and finally in Las Vegas.  In 1984, she married George K Lloyd, a retired Chief Warrant Officer of the US Coast Guard. George and Mary were both very active in the Chief Petty Officer‘s Association (CPOA), also called the Mavericks and the Auxiliaries arm of the association which was called the Wranglers. Under Mary and George’s leadership, they organized a minimum of three annual meetings held in Las Vegas for the CPOA, which each drew hundreds of “Coasties” from all over the United States.  Mary and the Auxiliary raised hundreds of dollars annually of which every penny went to needy military families at Christmas time.  Mary was enormously proud of her role as a military spouse and all of the philanthropic work that she could accomplish in that role as an auxiliary. She was a strong supporter of our United States military men and women and took every opportunity she had to honor and praise their service to our nation.  There has never been a time when she did not have a United States flag flying outside or inside her home.  On her front porch, she proudly displayed flags representing every branch of the military.  She also enjoyed having a spirited political discussion with anyone who dared to join her.

Mary took advantage of their frequent moves to try her hand at several different occupations. A few of these included being a licensed beautician, a merchandiser with American Greetings, a school crossing guard, working with gambling machines for machine maintenance and her favorite, working at a pet store.  Everyone can tell you that Mary gathered more pets during her time of employment than she ever sold.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, mother, older sister Betty Lou, younger brother Jim (Chopper) and husband George.  She is survived by her daughter Christina Lyon Younge of Cortland, New York, older brother Thomas of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Granddaughter Natasha Younge of New York and nieces Linda Struble and MaryAnn (Steve) Cook of Fort Wayne, IN and Susan Savage of Ellensburg, WA as well as 4 great nieces and 4 great nephews.

Funeral services will be held immediately followed by her burial at the Davis Funeral Home and Memorial Park. Arrangements are made by the Davis Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Mary’s honor to the Wounded Warrior Project.  https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/Donate
