Mary Jacquline (Jackie) Stickney passed away peacefully in your sleep at her home in Las Vegas, NV, US on Friday, January 27th, 2023 at the age of 92 from cancer and kidney failure, but she was sharp as ever till her last day. She was born in Strabane, Ireland and celebrated her birthday on May 8th, 1930, to William and Elizabeth Gillen and was the second youngest of six daughters. She was very proud of being Irish and her Irish accent( but please do not tell her that it had faded over the years). She moved to England when she was 16 and lived in Oxford and Cheltenham. Her five sisters all married Canadians, but Jackie, an extremely strong woman and her own person, married an upstanding American named David Lee Stickney. Jackie was happily married for 55 years. He was her rock.
Jackie was friendly and never met a stranger. She loved traveling and camping (I do not miss the tent days) and visited over 35 years and many European countries including Germany, Spain, and Italy. She loved to dance and was proud to tell everyone she won a twist competition! She was a math genius (She could do any math problem in her head), loved doing crossword puzzles and watching the wheel of fortune. She loved playing card games (hand and foot) and playing trivial pursuit which was a must at all family get togethers. But Jackie's ultimate passion was bingo (I just need one number) and was a regular at Arizona Charlies Decatur!
She worked in communications (she knew the military phonetic alphabet by heart), payroll (punch cards), and IT (computers) where she is the infancy of these technological fields and beyond her years! She was not shy about writing to her congressmen (Senator Walter Mondale) or other officials if she felt strongly about an issue! And yes, Walter Mondale did respond to her, and that is how we ended up in Texas! As some say, "she was a force to be reckoned with!"
She had many dear friends. Her three lifetime friends were her maid of honor Sarah Morris (who was like family), Dulcie Davies and Gill Richeson.
She will be dearly missed by her husband David, her five children (of which two she gave up for adoption but she reunited with thanks to Ancestry), 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, Stephen Stickney (deceased), three children: Tina (Stu and son Brady), Lily and Alex. Michelle Stickney Rasmusson (Richard). Teryl "Scott" Stickney two children: Chris and Amber (Ryan and daughter Emma). Marilyn Price (Rick deceased) three children: Nathan (Julie), Phil (Hana, daughter Lola and Son Tate) and Alex (Beata). Geoff Wooloff (Tracy) four children: Carl (Kimberly and son Will and twins Alex and Lizzy), Duncan (Kimberly sons Madison and Noah), Matthew and Aidan. Friend Sarah Morris one child: Brenten (and daughter Julia and son Greysen), her sister Georgina cousins Evelyn and Billy, three sister-in-law's Sue, Alice, and Ann and one brother-in-law Andy. She has many nieces, nephews and other family members who were very dear to her! She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Stephen, four sisters Chris, Pat, Edith and Evelyn, and one brother-in-law Chris.
We all wish she could have stayed longer, but we are happy and thankful we had her as long as we did! We love you and miss you everyday. Thanks for being a wonderful Wife, Mom, Grandma, Sister, Sister-in-law and Friends! We are the luckiest to have been part of your life! Until we see you again!
