Celebration of Life

Maurice Gregory Rogers known as “Chef Mo” by many was born on November 25, 1980 in Las Vegas, Nevada to the proud parents Melvin and Debra Rogers. He was a handsome baby boy and at just the right time to be thankful. He was our “Thanksgiving Baby!”

At the early age of 9, Maurice accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at the Church of Christ where his family attended church.

Maurice attended elementary school in Las Vegas. As a gentle giant and the tallest child in class, he never was a problem. He moved with his mother to Colorado in 1993 where he would attend junior high and high school. Maurice moved back to Las Vegas to finish his junior and senior year of high school. He obtained his diploma from Cheyenne High School. In his teenage years, he worked at many fast food restaurants.

After high school, Maurice met and married Joyce Randle. With this union five children were added, Anthony, Olivia, Maurice Jr, I’Zanay, and Keyonne Rogers. Maurice was a devoted father to his girls and he loved to spend quality time with them every chance he could. They were often seen together at the movies watching the latest films of that year. Maurice was a beloved son, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend and there was so much more to him than just a dad.

In his adult years, Maurice chose a career in the food industry and worked his way up as the baker manager for the Vons grocery store chain. He would find joy working at the Riviera Hotel and Casino. He later became the SLS chef (formerly known as the Sahara Hotel and Casino). His family always knew he was “TOP CHEF”, but the world would get to see it when he topped a billboard and was featured on television working at the new restaurant he opened called Bailiwick in the New Orleans Hotel.

Maurice was a great sports fan who watched football, basketball, and wrestling. He watched the Lakers, WWE wrestling, and his favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles. He was overjoyed when the Eagles won the Superbowl. He was often called Mo by his friends, Big Hurt by his family, and Batman by us all.

Those who mourn and cherish his memories are his wife, Joyce; his children, Anthony, Olivia, I’Zanay, and Keyonne; his devoted parents, Melvin Rogers (Maureen) and Debra Fletcher; two sisters, Natosha Johnson (Corey) and Cymphonie Redic; one brother, Isaiah Rogers; grandmother, Leola Fuller; a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and many friends and acquaintances.

His son, Maurice Jr. and his beloved grandparents, Joshua and Polly O’Neal, and his grandfather Richard Fuller all preceded him in death.
