Melissa Loving, 61, beloved Wife, Daughter, Sister, and Mother, was called to her eternal resting place on February 13, 2024. She entered this world on November 23, 1962, in Detroit, MI, born to Joseph and Muriel Loving. She is survived by her husband Vincent Loving, brothers Mark Loving and Steve Loving, and daughters Alex Basse and Katie Basse.
Melissa received her BA in Government from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts in 1984 after a semester abroad at the University of Bath in Bath, England. Melissa later went on to complete an MBA at the University of Detroit while working in the mortgage department at National Bank of Detroit. Melissa went on to join the Chrysler Corporation in Auburn Hills, Michigan as a Human Resources Business Partner in 1990. One of the highlights of her career was her assignment to the Stuttgart, Germany office of Daimler-Chrysler as the HR Business Partner responsible for the EMEA region. From a human capital perspective, Melissa guided the transition and un-merger of the Daimler-Chrysler relationship and the merger of Fiat and Chrysler as they became FCA. Melissa loved to travel and spent every spare moment exploring the various corners and hilltops of Europe. Her favorite trip was a road trip with her husband through Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, the Baltics, and Poland. Her most daring adventure was the hike to “The Preikestolen” in Strand, Norway for the view two thousand feet above the Lysefjord. Melissa returned from Stuttgart in 2010, moving into a similar support role for the Supplier Quality team.
Outside of work, Melissa enjoyed volunteering, doing everything from mentoring older students at Alex’s elementary school to organizing Habitat for Humanity events for her team at work to taking on the role of Chapter President for the Detroit chapter of CISV. Her work with CISV brought her particular joy because she, Katie, and Alex participated in CISV activities together for over a decade. Melissa loved having a house full of CISVers for a weekend, and always had a story ready that would make everyone laugh. Melissa kept close friendships all the way from elementary school, college, volunteering, and work. When he volunteered on his high school reunion committee, she reconnected with Vince, and thus began their happy 16 years together.
Melissa retired from Chrysler in August 2015, after 25 years. She relocated to the Las Vegas area shortly afterward and expanded her world to the challenges of real estate. Melissa joined Vince and migrated to Reno, Nevada as needed for his career. In Reno, Melissa became an Adjunct Professor of HR at University of Nevada, where her students enjoyed her classes so much that the football player students brought her down on the field to honor her at halftime during a game. After five winters in Reno, Melissa and Vince made the decision to return to Las Vegas for good… and for warmer weather.
A celebration of life will be held on March 16, 2024, at her home - 7357 Merimack Oaks Street, Las Vegas, Nevada 89166. The gathering will begin at noon and continue until the last memory has been shared.
