MELVIN LEWIS REED March 24, 1931 to January 19, 2014
Melvin Lewis Reed, 82, of Henderson, passed away peacefully at St. Rose De Lima Hospital, January 19, 2014 with friends and family by his side. Melvin Lewis Reed was born in Louisville, Kentucky to Garland and Elizabeth Reed. He graduated from Portland Christian High School in 1949. He was the husband of the late Thelma Evelyn Lee Reed who predeceased him February 17, 1963. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Mediterranean during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Coral Sea. His main enjoyments were family and friends. He also enjoyed flying and was a private pilot. He had a long and varied work life telephone lineman and installer, gas station operator, insurance and hearingaid salesman, cab driver and car salesman. At one time he had his own fresh juice company NuLife Juice and his own general contracting company, Garland Construction. He is a retired stagehand and soundman for I.A.T.S.E. Local 720, serving as the head soundman for the Tropicana Hotel for 31 years. A great man loved by many, respected by all.
He is survived by his wife Ann his son David Bruce Reed, Sr. of Springfield, Missouri his daughter Laura Jo Caswell and her husband Richard of Royal Palm Beach, Florida his sister Elizabeth Arlene Reed his stepdaughter Cindy Vallette of Henderson, Nevada his stepson Tony Tucker of Provo, Utah eleven grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother of the late Keith W. Reed, Clayton E. Reed, and Loeita M. Reitz.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, January 23, from 48 p.m. in the Davis Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, with Funeral Services immediately following from 89 p.m.
Burial will be at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City, NV on Friday, January 24 at 9:20 a.m.
