Mike Borchers passed away at 1:14pm on 04142014. He had lived in Las Vegas since 1963 and was well known and liked by all. He was born 7091932 in Chicago. Starting at an early age, he sold newspapers on a cold windy corner in Chicago. At age 13 he went to work on a farm in Hinkley, Ill. He joined the Marines at age 21. After being stationed in FL, he decided to stay there for 10 more years, working as a mailman and a milkman. He was introduced to dog racing there and vowed he would someday have his own kennel. He loved gambling and moved to Las Vegas for that reason. He worked as a security guard at several hotels and casinos, meeting many famous people.
He wanted to be in business and found a start at Oliver Twist Fish and Chips, where he learned many valuable lessons. After 3 years though, he had to close and went to work dealing at several casinos, spending 10 years at the Showboat Hotel. The moment he heard of a dogtrack opening in Henderson, he started raising and training dogs for the grand opening in 1981. Unfortunately, the track only lasted 11 months. So in 1982, he and his wife started having parties in their home for people interested in mate swapping. When Sams Town Hotel and Casino opened in 1985, he began spending every day betting on the dog and horse races. In 1997, he opened the Red Rooster Mini Storage and the Red Rooster Office Warehouse.
He is survived by his wife, Chris sons, David, Mike, and Randy Borchers, and daughters, Twylah Michaels and Melody Green Stepsons, Brian and Gary Beck and stepdaughters, Melanie and Lisa Beck and Cindy Triguba of Columbus, OH and 12 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren. Visitation for Mike will be held on Tuesday, April 22 from 10 am12 pm at Davis Funeral Homes and Memorial Park, 6200 South Eastern Ave. Funeral service will follow at 12 Noon. There will be an open mike opportunity during the service for any friends who would like to tell memories of Mike. Burial will follow the services. Arrangements have been entrusted to Davis Funeral Homes and Memorial Park.
