Mono Allen Fox passed away on April 27, 2024 in a hospital in Las Vegas after some complications from an emergency surgery.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Allen Fox, Pearl Early Fox and step-mother, Pauline Fox as well as his brothers Richard and Archie Fox, and his wife, Shirley Fox.
Mono was born August 8, 1934 in Port Aransas, Texas. His father had been in the Coast Guard and they traveled an lived on the East coast, the gulf and Washington State before ending up in San Diego, California.
Mono was also a black belt judo instructor and taught in a studio in Tijuana. A strange confrontation with some unruly men led to his demonstration as a martial arts master. This event led to the meeting of his first wife, Hilda Socorro Aguilar. Years later, he would marry Shirley Fox who was his biggest supporter at Motorcycle races.
After serving in the Air Force, Mono worked for various Companies in San Diego such as Cubic, Wavetek and Solar. He also worked in Irvine and helped with the Challenger space shuttle. His work then led him to the Nevada Test Site where he worked for many years and oversaw the disposal and storage of nuclear waste.
Mono’s true passion was in riding motorcycles. He was a member of District 38 and came in first place in 1977. He also helped some very famous riders back in the 70’s (like Don Vesco) and helped in making machines more powerful. He was also a very skilled Poker player and kept his mind sharp until the very end.
Survivors include his 2 daughters: Cynthia (Fox) Kellems, Brenda Fox and Sandra Fox along with 2 grandchildren : Michael and Vanessa Kellems and 2 great grandchildren, Michael and Amelia.
A Memorial service will be held on May 22nd at the Pacific Beach/La Jolla Chapel in La Jolla , CA followed by a service at Miramar National Cemetary in San Diego.
