Patrick G. McGuire

February 6, 1926 — September 3, 2021

Patrick George McGuire, Sr., at 95+ years old, passed away on September 3, 2021 in Las Vegas, NV.
Patrick was born on February 6, 1926 to Phillip Joseph McGuire and Anna
Renata Baumann in Glencoe, IL (a Chicago suburb). He graduated from New
Trier High School in 1943 and enlisted into the US Army Air Corps during WWII
and served from 1944-1946 as a radio operator and utilized Morse Code.
Patrick worked for Proctor and Gamble in pharmaceutical in Monticello Illinois,
then to St. Louis, MO, and then back to Central Illinois in Springfield and then
Petersburg. Retired in 1990 after 34 years and Patrick promptly enrolled at
Sangamon State University (later known as University of Illinois - Springfield) in
Springfield, IL. He graduated with honors in 1994 with a Bachelor’s Degree in
Business Management at 68 years old which was one of his life’s goals.
At 78 years old, Patrick decided to move away from Central IL to be closer to
family in either Ann Arbor, MI, Chicago or San Diego. After much consideration,
he and his faithful companion dog moved from Petersburg, IL and chose the
great weather of Escondido, a suburb of San Diego and was near son Quinn and his wife Rebecca and their family.
His interests included family, baseball (especially following the careers of his 2
grandsons), golf, amateur/ham radio, Morse Code, collecting railroad
memorabilia, travel, jazz music, animals, an ice-cold pint, and in his later years,
his lady friend, Luzanne Grainger (who was wonderful), and the Lions Club in
Escondido, CA. Patrick had his 2nd hole-in-one at 84 years old in Escondido, yet his dog’s name was Bogey!
Close family from around the country got together a couple of times in San Diego to celebrate Patrick’s 80th and 90th birthdays.
Patrick was preceded in death by his parents Phillip and Anna McGuire, his
sister Josephine McGuire Darlan, and his eldest son, Patrick “Rick” George McGuire, Jr.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Beth Putnam (Steve) in Ann Arbor, MI, son
Quinn McGuire (Rebecca) in Las Vegas, NV, daughter Susan McGuire (Gary
Natkin), in Pompano Beach, FL, son Thomas McGuire, in Pompano Beach, FL.
Grandsons Dylan Putnam in Auburn Hills, MI, Zachary Putnam (Natasha) in Ann
Arbor, MI, step-granddaughter Heather Calliger (Brent) in Damascus, OR and 6
great grandchildren: CJ, Trotter, and Penelope Putnam in Auburn Hills, MI,
Brooks Putnam in Ann Arbor, MI and Logan and Paisley Calliger in Damascus, OR.
Survivors also include nieces Claire Darlan Anderson (Roger) in Okatie, SC and
Jean Darlan Lewis (Ray) in Lincolnville Beach, ME. Grand niece Jenna Anderson
Williams (Austin, Captain, USAF) in Dudeldorf, Germany and great-grand niece Reagan Williams in Dudeldorf, Germany.
No services are planned at this time and burial site has not been chosen.
