Paul Ivan Dakus

Paul Ivan Dakus, 80, of Las Vegas, passed away on April 28, 2020 peacefully in his sleep while at home under hospice care.  Born on April 22, 1940 to Peter and Anne Dakus, Paul was one of six children.

Paul grew up in Alberta, Canada, where he worked in the oil industry from the time he was 18 until about 50.   Working in the oil field gave him and his family the opportunity to experience living in some amazing places, such as: Canada (Inuvik, Edmonton, and Calgary), the U.S. (Odessa, Texas and Las Vegas, Nevada), and Peru (Lima).  Upon retiring from the oil industry, Paul and his family returned to Las Vegas, where he and his wife at the time (Helen McClain), began a successful laundry and drycleaning business. 

Despite his ongoing health issues, Paul had a tremendous zest for life and a witty sense of humor.   Any spare time Paul had, was most likely spent golfing and watching sports, such as football and hockey.  He loved animals and anything outdoors.   . 

Paul is predeceased by his wife of 13 years, Sadie Catherine Dakus, brothers: Wes  and Marvin Dakus, and parents: Peter and Anne Dakus. 

Paul and Sadie lived in Golden Valley, AZ, where they spent many of their years playing cribbage and travelling in their motorhome.  

Ultimately, Paul returned to Las Vegas, where he spent the remaining years of his life spending time with his family.  Paul enjoyed a good poker game and a good western movie even more.  

Paul is survived by his ex-wife: Helen McClain, four children: Jeff (Lisa), Scott (Heather), Christine (Adrian), and Brenda (Bryan), three siblings: Jack, Rodney (Sonia), and Kerryl (Larry), and 8 grandchildren: Matthew (Sharon), Amanda, Casey, Andrew, Bailey, James, Emily, and Sasha.   

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Davis Funeral Home, located at 6200 S. Eastern Ave.  Las Vegas, NV  89119

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, we will be having an intimate service with immediate family members only in attendance at this time.
