Paul Raymond Smith, 90, of Henderson, Nevada, drifted into eternal sleep at 2:01 PM, Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born April 23, 1927, in Hooks, Texas, to Raymond and Lena May (Bailey) Smith. He married the love of his life, Marilyn Cecelia Gallahue on December 11, 1970 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sadly, she preceded him in death in 2014. They are finally together again in eternity.
He is survived by his children; Stephen Smith of Elko, Paulette DeMint of Henderson, Randy (Esther) Smith of Anchorage; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and his beloved dog, Raven. Paul was preceded in death by both of his parents; three brothers-Gorman Franklin, Hal Eugene, & Carl Harding; two sisters-Dora Adele (Wheeler) & Eleanor Reed (Kelly); and one son, Corey Allen Smith.
Paul was born in Texas and spent most of his younger years there. Shortly after his 18th birthday, he enlisted as a Marine on July 6, 1945 and served briefly in World War II. After his departure from the military, he married Alma Fay Baker on December 10, 1949 in Gridley, California. He started his family there shortly after. In 1957, Paul moved his young family to Southern Nevada and has lived here ever since. He is a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
He died the way he lived, he wrote his own rules, he fought authority and he paved his own way. He lived 180 years in the 90 calendar years we had with him because he attacked life; he grabbed it by the lapels, kissed it, and swung it back onto the dance floor. He was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was important - the simplicity of living a life with those you love, but that also never stopped him from flirting with the ladies!!
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Monday, July 24, 2017 at Davis Funeral Home and Memorial Park at 6200 S Eastern Ave, 89119. The funeral service will follow the same day at 10:00 AM. The burial will be at Davis Memorial Park immediately following the funeral service. We'll have a Scotch and tonic in memory of you!!
