Pedro T. Atoigue, Jr., AKA Pete, Coach Pete, Uncle Pete, and Mr. A. passed away on February 10, 2021. To everyone’s shock and surprise, Pete lost his battle with Covid pneumonia. If you knew Pete, you loved Pete and he loved you right back, making this loss truly difficult.
Pete was born in Tamuning, Guam on January 31, 1971, to Pedro T. Atoigue Sr. and Ana Crisostomo Atoigue, however, his family relocated to Southern California when he was very young. After graduating high school, Pete returned to Guam to get to know his extended family and worked as a court interpreter. Pete was fluent in sign language after learning to communicate with his brother who became deaf at a young age.
In 1994, Pete moved to Las Vegas where he began working for the state, assisting with the care of adults with disabilities; and then eventually for Clark County School District in the field of Special Education. Over the years Pete worked for several classrooms and departments within the school district, such as a teaching assistant in the Deaf Education program, as well as a teaching assistant and long-term substitute in Self Contained programs for students with moderate to severe disabilities. Pete also worked as a Behavior Mentor, worked for Related Services, and helped in any program he was asked or needed. One of Pete’s best qualities was his dedication to helping anyone in need, and he worked tirelessly to help those who needed it most. All the while, Pete went to school to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Social Services and a Master’s degree in Education. In 2016 Pete achieved one of his proudest moments by becoming a certified teacher.
Pete also became certified as an air conditioning tech and worked for various companies during the summers, he worked in after school programs, city recreation programs, coached Little League, JV, and Varsity high school baseball, and high school girl’s volleyball. He was passionate about coaching and making sure every player participated and every player had fun. His hobbies were fishing, camping, bowling, and playing darts.
Pete is preceded in death by his father, Pedro T Atoigue, Sr (1994), and an older brother, Paul Anthony Atoigue (1965).
Pete is survived by his wife, Joanne Atoigue; son, Paul T. Atoigue; step-son, Kenichiro Chaffee and his wife, Crystal; step-son, Connor Chaffee and his wife Linda; brother, Al Atoigue and his partner Michael Silver; brother, Patrick Atoigue; mother, Ana Atoigue.
Memorial services will be held on March 20th at 11am at Green Valley High School on the baseball field. Due to state Covid restrictions, attendance will be separated into shifts. Please check Facebook or the family for details.
The family of Pedro T Atoigue, jr. wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses at Desert Springs Hospital MICU, to the administration and staff at Green Valley High School for going above and beyond the care of one of their own, and to the many friends and family that offered prayer and support.
