Penny Louise Hague passed away in Henderson, NV on Sat, March 7, 2015. Born in Atascadero, CA, in 1943, Penny lived in many places throughout her life, but called Las Vegas home for the last 45 years. Because of her father's service with the US Army, Penny lived with her family in Germany, Japan, France & Alexandria, VA, where she graduated from high school in 1962. Penny was passionate about teaching young children, and in 1966 earned her B.A. from Salem College in West Virginia in early childhood education. After college, Penny moved to Fairbanks, AK with her 1st husband to teach Kindergarten. In 1969, they re-located to Las Vegas. Soon after, their 2 daughters were born. Penny spent 15 years at Sunrise Hospital as their 1st Child Life Specialist, known as the ""Penny the Play Lady."" She went on to teach for 11 years in the early childhood lab at the College of S. Nevada. Penny was an an active member of her church (UUMC), where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She was also involved with several philanthropic groups throughout her life. As a charter member of the Candlelighters of Southern Nevada, she was dedicated to helping children with cancer. Penny cherished her time traveling and antiquing with husband Rick. She loved Elvis, classical, choral and folk music, live theatre, and having margaritas with friends. Known for her sense of humor and selflessness, Penny was a great listener and talented letter writer who loved entertaining friends and family. She was a wonderful sister, mother, grandmother & aunt and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Penny is survived by sister Candace Hague, daughters Lainie Berry Gaidies (John) & Robbie Berry (Michael Perilstein); grandchildren William & Grey Gaidies, Jack Perilstein; Jennifer Weaver, Donny Hague & Crystal Fordham; step children Steve, Larry, Ron & Ginger Hague; and niece & nephew Tiffin & Aaron Hague. She is preceded in death by husband Richard Hague and parents Jim & Elaine Schnabel. There will be a Celebration of Life service on Sun, 3/15 at 1:30pm at University United Methodist Church, 4412 S. Maryland Pkwy, Las Vegas, NV 89119.
