Peter Carreon Ortega, 83, of Las Vegas, Nevada left us to play heaven’s fairway on February 7, 2023. He is preceded in death by his wife Donna, siblings Arlene, Rose, Julia, Mary, Ruby, Paul, Clem and Vince. Pete is survived by his three children: Crystal (Fulton), Kathy (West) and Steve; his sisters Nellie and Charlotte; his grandchildren: Raeanne, Bianca, Sophie, Jordan, Andrew and Hayden; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Peter was born in Phoenix, Arizona and was the youngest of eleven children. He attended Phoenix Union High School where he excelled in wrestling, baseball, and football. He was proud to be recognized for his achievements of 50 years ago as state wrestling champion by the Arizona Interscholastic Association in 2008.
Pete served as President of the Optimist Club and was recognized for his outstanding leadership in 1968-1969. He loved to tell stories about his friends, Pete and Nick, and his adventures during his time in the Army.
While working for a medical supply company, he met the love of his life, Donna, at the hospital where she worked. They settled down in Las Vegas and he became a craps and blackjack dealer at a downtown casino. Pete was a dealer and pit boss for the remainder of his career. He worked at the MGM, through the fire of 1980, the Desert Inn, and Station Casinos. He loved to tell stories of how his head or hands were featured in shots of “Oceans 11” and his cameo in the reality show “American Casino”.
What he loved most in his life were his children and grandchildren. Always putting them first, he was the best father and grandfather anyone could have asked for. Affectionately known as “Boompie” by the grandchildren and their friends, he always talked about how proud he was of his babies and constantly reminded them of his love for them.
The only thing he loved as much as his family was golf. Pete loved to play golf, read about golf, practice golf, watch golf, listen to golf, he just loved all things golf. Pete played almost every golf course in Southern Nevada, he taught his children and grandchildren to play and was an excellent coach.
Pete died, surrounded by his family, on a beautiful day for golf, with no clouds and no wind. He picked the perfect day to find peace and will be remembered constantly and never forgotten.
Services for Peter C. Ortega will be held on Saturday, March 4th, 2023.
