Phylicia Melinda Johnson was born on January 14, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois to her loving parents Miriam and John Johnson.
Phylicia attended Hyde Park High School in Chicago, Illinois and spent her early adult years living close to her family. In August 1988 she ventured out west, leaving cold winters behind and relocated to warm Las Vegas, Nevada.
She worked as a Blackjack dealer for a year before settling into the hospitality industry. She made accommodations comfortable and straightforward for hundreds of thousands of travelers to Vegas. She was a dedicated worker at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino for 22 years. She retired in 2019 to prioritize her health and wellness.
Phylicia was an animal lover and was an excellent mama to her canine fur babies. She was extremely passionate about good music and would enjoying listening to albums/cassettes for hours. Watching sports was another favorite pastime and Phylicia attended many live boxing matches at the old Showboat Hotel and Casino. She loved playing card games and could throw down while playing Bid Whist!
Phylicia always had an open home to those in need or transition. Although she did not have children, she opened her heart and doors to countless nieces, nephews and friends over her lifetime. She loved her mother and learned to care for others directly from her with an open heart.
Phylicia could be stubborn – but she was also a kind soul who took no mess! As a Capricorn, she was a sharp dresser who appreciated designer outfits and could iron a crease so sharp in pants you could cut your finger.
Phylicia was a pleasant and caring person who wanted to keep everyone around her smiling. She was always funny, even to the point of being silly and made sure everyone had a good time. This made sense as she valued maintaining strong connections with her family and friends.
Phylicia was called home on January 3, 2024 to be with the Lord. Her father, John Johnson and brother, Andre Johnson preceded her in death.
Phylicia leaves to mourn her absence: mother, Miriam Johnson; brothers Marvin Johnson, Leonard Johnson (Michelle) and Jeffrey Johnson (Erica). She also leaves to cherish memories of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
