Rev. Father Francis Timoney, KHS

Reverend Father Francis Timoney, KHS, age 83 of Las Vegas passed away Friday, February 18, 2022.  Father Timoney was born November 3, 1938, in Glasgow, Scotland and following his seminary studies in Waterford, Ireland was ordained to the priesthood on June 7, 1969, for the Diocese of Reno.  His pastoral assignments took him throughout the state of Nevada.  Father Timoney served as parochial vicar at Saint Anne, Las Vegas and Little Flower, Reno.  Father Timoney served as pastor at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Hawthorne; Saint Albert the Great, Reno; Prince of Peace, Las Vegas; Saint Anne, Las Vegas.  In 2001, Father was named an Episcopal Vicar in the Diocese of Las Vegas, and in 2002, was invested into the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. 

Father TImoney built two Churches in Nevada, Saint Albert the Great, Reno and Prince of Peace, Las Vegas.  In addition to his church-building, Father Timoney was also an author of children’s books and a lover of Doberman Pinschers.  Following his retirement in 2007, Father Timoney continued his priestly service at various parishes in the Diocese of Las Vegas, celebrating Mass and hearing confessions.  When his health became frail, he offered Mass and prayer from his home.  Father Timoney was the eighth of nine children of Denis Timoney and Jean Brannan.  Father Timoney is survived by many nieces and nephews, and his extended “Parish Family” in the dioceses of Las Vegas and Reno. 

The Rosary and Vigil service for Father Timoney will be Monday, February 28, 2022, beginning at 6:00 PM.  A reception will be held at the Prince of Peace Parish Hall following the Vigil.  The Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Most Reverend Gregory W. Gordon, Auxiliary Bishop of Las Vegas, will be offered at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.  Both liturgies will be celebrated at Prince of Peace Parish, 5485 E. Charleston Blvd.  The Burial service for Father Timoney will follow the Funeral Mass at Davis Paradise Valley Memorial Park, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. at 12:00 Noon. 

Father Timoney had a special fatherly love for all his former parishioners, his “family” in Nevada.  Donations in memory of Father Francis Timoney may be made to the parishes where he served as priest and pastor, or to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Las Vegas.
