Richard Mac MacDonald, 93, of Las Vegas, passed away Oct. 11, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was born May 17, 1921, in Philadelphia. He served in the U.S Army during World War II, driving landing craft to storm beaches in the Philippine theater. The family moved to Las Vegas in 1959, where he started a sales business, then moved to Hawaii, where the family lived for 20 years, opening one of the largest real estate investment firms in the state. In 1983, he moved back to Las Vegas when its appeal was beginning to shine. Mac was involved in development and real estate investments, ranging from office buildings, shopping centers and master plans. Additionally, he was beginning to build spec homes in MacDonald Highlands. He was always looking into investments and was a voracious reader. Mac enjoyed reviewing prospectuses and legal documents for other family members. With his loving wife Frances, Mac attended numerous charitable events and functions. His smiling face and large glasses were a trademark and together they supported numerous charities. Mac threw some of the best parties in Las Vegas His penthouse condominium was filled with hundreds of friends and wellwishers. Show business friends working on the Strip would drop by to entertain, sing, play music, or tell jokes. Everyone enjoyed Macs parties and he enjoyed throwing them. He leaves behind his wife, Frances R. MacDonald two sons, Richard C. MacDonald Claire and Douglas MacDonald Eva grandchildren, Nicole MacDonald, Paige MacDonald Leo and Dougie MacDonald Danielle and five great grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. Viewing will be 15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at Davis Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Patrick and Eastern Avenues. In lieu of flowers, donations made in Macs name to Heaven Can Wait or the local SPCA would be welcome.
