Robert Allen Brown, Sr. was born to Richard Brown Sr. and Leonia Brown on August 12, 1949 in Waco, Texas. He attended Willow Grove Elementary school and was a member of Willow Grove Baptist Church where he was baptized in a nearby lake.
In 1956, he and his family relocated to Southern California. Robert promoted from 118th Street Elementary, Samuel Gompers Jr. High and John C. Fremont High School. He was also a member of Mt. Saint Baptist Church in Compton, CA and a longtime member of Freewill Missionary Baptist Church.
On February 16, 1968, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Navasota and earned Vietnam and National Defense Service Medals.
After receiving an honorable discharge from service, Robert joined Northrop Grumman Corporation for a short stint and then joined US Post Office in 1970. He was employed at the US Post Office for 24 years.
In 1972, Robert met the love of his life Sheila Blackburn. Two years later they made a commitment to God and each other and wed on February 23, 1974. They remained husband and wife for over 43 years until he transitioned from this life on September 11, 2017.
Throughout his life, there were a few constants: his love for God, his love for family, and his love for music. He stayed connected to church, loved Gospel music and even sang in the church choir on occasions. His hobbies included playing the bass guitar and taking pictures. Robert always provided for his family and with his mild mannerism and calm nature, was that rock of support whenever needed. He was the proud dad of all his children but that baby girl Christina was the apple of his eye.
Robert leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Sheila; his daughters, Demetria (Byron) and Christina (Scott); his grandson Bryson; his siblings, Edna, Rickey, Vanessa and Richard, Jr.; his God Son, Jacob; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His parents Richard and Leonia Brown; his son, Robert Jr., and his brother Clarence all preceded him in death.
