U.S. Air Force, Retired Col. Robert Speed Hubbard, 85, passed away October 7, 2010. Born January 31, 1925, in Louisville, Kentucky, he was a 37year resident of Nevada.
In 1943, Robert joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, as aviation cadet, and transferred to the USAF in 1948, as 2nd lieutenant, retiring in 1973, as colonel. A few of his awards are the American Campaign Service MedalVictory Medal WWII 1945, Korean pilot wings 1953, Distinguished Flying Cross 1956, 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster 1957, 1st Oak Leaf ClusterDistinguished Flying Cross 1969, and Bronze Star Medal as squadron commander, 16th Tactical Reconnaissance in Vietnam 1969.
He flew commercial airlines 19751995 for Iran National Airlines, Yemen Airways, Pacific Interstate, DITCO and Fahad al Tameeni. In 2001, he received recognition for his Cold War Overflights 19501956.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, of 45 years, Jane Hubbard, in 1997. He is survived by his son, Paul Hubbard of Reno daughter, Carol Daly of Las Vegas three granddaughters and four greatgrandchildren.
