Ronald Wolsky was born on March 4, 1961 to Alan and Roberta (Brandt) Wolsky of Brooklyn, New York. Ron and his brother were raised in Brooklyn and Manhattan throughout their childhood. They traveled and enjoyed their family until their mother’s tragic death in 1980.
From an early age, Ron remembered his father who gave him his first paint brushes, canvas and paints to create his own artwork. His father helped to mold his skills and fostered Ron’s passion for art by taking the boys to museums and galleries around the city. After his mother’s murder, Ron joined the military and experienced being a Military Police Officer in Germany during his service. Upon returning from his military service, he attended Pratt Institute and worked diligently towards a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at New York University. He was part of an internship program in Italy where he studied and shadowed many of his favorite European artists and later pursued his Master’s Degree in Fine Arts at New York University.
Ron’s faith was important to him. He was a Jewish-Christian who put his faith and trust in the saving grace of Jesus Christ in 2006 at Highland Church in Queens and attended church with Sonia in NYC, Reno and Las Vegas.
He chose to make an impact in the lives of young people by teaching art for the New York City public school system where he taught for 27 years. He thrived in challenging settings such as Rikers Island Correctional Facility, School for the mentally ill youths and John Adams High School. He wanted his students’ skills to grow and be nurtured as his was. He said that he fell in love with and married his best friend, coworker and the most beautiful woman he had ever met in his wife, Sonia, on July 1, 2005.
Ron and Sonia enjoyed traveling, hiking, cruising including trips to Europe, the Caribbean and the United States until their final move to Las Vegas, which brought much joy to their lives. He loved the community here and walking in the wetlands.
He is survived by his wife, Sonia; brother, Marc Wolsky, step-son, David (Reachel) Saint-Val; grandson, Ananias; Aunt Aileen (Howard) Golden; cousins, Michele and Dana Golden; Aunt, Liela Brandt, and the Saint-Val family.
A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, January 11th, 2023 at Davis Funeral Chapel with Mr. John Horton officiating. Sonia will receive visitors from 1 PM to 2 PM prior.
