Rose L. Meranto (Rosie, nee Schiro) of Mt. Charleston in Las Vegas, NV passed away Monday, February 13, 2023, at the age of 92 years young in the peace and comfort of her beloved mountain home.
Rose was born on January 15, 1931, in Niagara Falls, New York to Anna and Lawrence Schiro. She was the youngest of seven siblings; Faye (John) Amato, Thomas (Ann) Schiro, Paul (Zenia) Schiro, Joseph (Mary) Schiro, Mae (Charles) Chiarenza, and Henry (Dorothy) Schiro.
Rose graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1949. She married the love of her life, Robert (Rocky) Meranto in 1952 and was married to him for 48 years until his passing in 2000. They were blessed with three children; Vincenette (Netta) and Bill Jarrett, Robert (Bob) and Pamela Meranto, James (Jimmy) and late Shanee Meranto.
Rose through her family and extended family had been blessed to have numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren and even great great great grandchildren as well as many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
Rose and Rocky moved to Las Vegas in 1961. During her working life, she initially worked at the Flamingo Hotel. She later transferred to the Landmark Hotel and eventually the Sands Hotel where she stayed as Chief Operator of the switchboard room until retirement in 1988. At that time, they sold their home in Las Vegas and moved to their cabin on Mt. Charleston which was a life changing wonder. Rose had a passion for life on the mountain and cherished the many years and friends she made.
A memorial mass will be held on March 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church located at 6350 N. Fort Apache Road in Las Vegas with Father Bill Kenny officiating. Interment will be at the Davis Memorial Park Chapel following mass service located at 6200 S. Eastern Avenue in Las Vegas.
At Rose’s request in lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation located at 8784 S. Maryland Parkway #130, Las Vegas, NV 89123 or to any charity of your choosing.
We all considered ourselves blessed to be loved by Rose whether you were a member of her family, extended family or one of her many friends. Rose’s passing has left behind many broken hearts but her spirit, her faith and her zest for life will remain with us all forever.
