Roxanne Mae Ellis Grunert, of Henderson, passed away May 24, 2014, at Nathan Adelson Hospice. She was born Dec. 5, 1937, to Virgil William Ellis and Rose Irene Ellis nee Winderlin of South Bend, INd. Roxanne graduated from Washington High School in South Bend in 1955. June 23, 1956, she married Leon Grunert of Piqua, Ohio. They were married for 56 years and they had four children. Roxanne and Leon moved several times to accommodate his career as an air traffic controller, settling in Las Vegas in 1995. Roxanne was extremely gifted in the liberal arts, excelling at painting, drawing, sewing and quilting. Her penmanship was both beautiful and distinctive. She opened up her own Las Vegas store, Sew Special, in 1983. It was a huge success and Roxanne gave it her all, helping countless women create oneofakind items for their friends and family. Roxanne also worked as a clerk at CVS pharmacy for over 13 years. Roxanne was a devout Catholic parishioner of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, and a passionate American, proud of her heritage and her right to preserve the American way for future generations. Roxanne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leon and her beloved son, Steven. She is survived by her three daughters, Rachelle Patrick, Susan Carl and Cecelia John grandchildren, David Marissa, Jennifer, Nicholas, Ryan, Hannah and Alexander greatgranddaughter, Reagan and greatgrandson, Nolan. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 130 N. Pecos Road, Henderson. Graveside services following at Davis Memorial Park, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas. Roxanne was the ultimate optimist, her favorite saying was, I cant lose why Because I have faith, courage, and enthusiasm. She was loved and respected by her family and friends and she will be missed by all.
