Sotero Calibuso

Sotero Daguro Calibuso, 78, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed peacefully into the arms of our Heavenly Father on March 27, 2010 in his native Philippines. He was born in Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur, Philippines on July 9, 1931. He came to the United States in 1978, first settling in Hawaii for about a year before making his home in Las Vegas for the next 31 years. He worked for the El Cortez Hotel and Casino from 1980 till he retired in 1998. Upon his retiring, he became an avid gardener and chief caretaker of the family home, always organizing and making sure it was in working order. One of his favorite hobbies was photography, especially taking pictures of the family, whether it was on vacation or at parties. He spent many hours putting the photos in albums so people could view his work. You could also find him in front of the television, watching his favorite shows Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and especially Monday Nite Wrestling on USA at 6 p.m. When his friends or realtives were moving to Las Vegas, he would always let them stay at the house till they could get a place of their own. He spent his time with his beloved wife, Dolores, going to their house in the Philippines and their home here. He was a lifelong Catholic and member of his parish, St. Bridgette. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruno and Eugenia, and four brothers and one sister. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Dolores daughters Marlene Joseph Carillo, Rosemarie Victor Buen, Virginia Gregorio Lopez and Susan Roosevelt Stark all of Las Vegas sons Florante Doris Calibuso , Tirso Emma Calibuso and Ruben Jen Calibuso all of Las Vegas Grandchildren Marc, Victor Jr., Janet, Stephanie, Anthony, Larosha, Jacqueline, Sean, Eugene, Jalena and Janessa greatgrandchildren Jeremiah and Kairi Mae brother Ignacio of Hawaii sister Carmen Debis of the Philippines, and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His body will be flown back to Las Vegas for viewing at Davis Funeral Home, 6200 S.Eastern Ave. Las Vegas, NV 89119 on April 11, 2010 from 12:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. with the funeral services the next day starting at 10:00a.m.. A reception will follow at the Calibuso residence.
