Stella E. Reed

Stella Elizabeth Reed, 90, of Las Vegas, peacefully ended her lifes journey on Earth July 1, 2013. She was born Jan. 6, 1923, to Tom and Lucy Hammons, Ark. She was called Star by her mother. She moved to Goodsprings with her family in 1938. She graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1940. It was in Goodsprings, at a box social, that Stella met the love of her life, Bob Reed, whom she was married to for 62 years. Together they created a family of two beautiful daughters, Bobbie Sue and JoAnn. Stella and Bob loved to dance, play cards, entertain and travel the world together. A 75year resident of southern Nevada, Stella saw many changes in the Las Vegas area. Stellas career included working as a postmaster at the Goodsprings Post Office, serving on the election teams for Clark County and was employed by the Clark County School District as an elementary school teachers aide, specializing with deaf children. Several times Stella put her career on hold for the most important job of staying at home and taking care of her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. During her retirement years, Stella was very active on a daily basis and enjoyed playing cards, Bingo and listening to the opera. Stella lived a long life that was full, traveled each and every highway and much more than this, she did it her way. Stella was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Reed parents, Tom and Lucy Hammons brother, Willis Dee Hammons, sisters, Christine Stephens and Minnie Lee Haycock soninlaw, Corky Poole and grandson, Michael Poole. Stella is survived by her children, Bobbie Poole and JoAnn and Chappy Chapman grandchildren, Ann John Sunstrum, Robert Susan Chapman, Jacque Pat Garrison and Michelle Alex Kazel 11 greatgrandchildren and 12 greatgreatgrandchildren. There will be a celebration of Stellas life at 2 p.m. Friday, July 12, at Davis Funeral Home, 6200 S Eastern Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Goodsprings Historical Society, P.O. Box 603, Goodsprings, NV 89019.
