Steven LoMastro, 70, passed away suddenly on September 27, 2024 in St. George, Utah. He was born in Elmhurst Illinois to Lillian McDonald and Laurence LoMastro on March 4, 1954. He was a Las Vegas resident for 36 years.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents and his son Matthew Morris LoMastro. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Colleen A. Morris; his son, Andrew Morris LoMastro (Irene), granddaughter, Lorelei Mahina LoMastro; brothers, Joseph LoMastro (Mary) and Larry LoMastro (Kathy); brother-in-law, James J. Morris (Lina); sisters-in-law, Sheila Dye (Fred), Mary Pat Morris (Angi), Roseleen Morris; nephews, Anthony LoMastro (Amber), Nathan Dye (Jackie), Danny Gleave, Darren Bak, Stuart Bak; nieces, Elizabeth Hernandez (Selvin), Kathy LoMastro, Elaine Marie (Robel), Pamela Vavra; great nephews, Rowan and Jack Streaker, Jaxon LoMastro, Thomas and Nico Hernandez; great nieces, Ashtyn and Lyncoln LoMastro, Amber Vavra, Amalie, Clara, and Elsie Dye .

Steve answered his nation’s call during one of the most challenging times in our history. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1972 serving as a Quartermaster aboard the USS SARSFIELD (DD-837) until 1976, earning the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation.

He attended the college of DuPage and worked as an operating engineer, an air conditioning technician, and before retirement was a research assistant at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He was a critical support to his wife’s career, from designing research databases to caring for children in research clinics.

He met the love of his life, Colleen Morris, after a Cubs game in Chicago- they were married in 1980 and have been an inseparable team, raising two children and contributing to the Las Vegas community, especially supporting families of children with genetic syndromes. His granddaughter Lorelei was his joy. He loved taking her on nature walks, picking vegetables and blackberries, and hearing her greeting, “Granddude!” He played the “I fix it” game with her with real tools. He was proud of his son Andrew and his responsibility in the care of his wife Irene and daughter Lorelei. He treasured both the time spent exploring and vacationing with Andrew’s family and sharing work on the family property.

Steve was expert at home remodeling and was proficient in carpentry. His woodworking included cabinetry and handcrafted gifts (frames, bowls, boxes, vases) for family and friends. He enjoyed adventure sports, including scuba diving, skydiving, hiking with his dogs, and four wheeling. He enjoyed vacations with family, most recently to Australia/New Zealand. He loved the outdoors, target shooting (especially with his brother Larry), and camping, and delighted in giving UTV tours of his beloved Clear Creek Canyon in Utah. His presence is felt in his many construction and landscaping projects, including an orchard, raised garden beds, a greenhouse,

and a barn built with his son Andrew and his friends. He could fix anything, and “Ask Steve” was often said when someone had a home maintenance problem.
