Steven Michael Vandervort

May 12, 1962 — June 5, 2011

Steve graduated from Union City High School in Union City, Pennsylvania, in 1980.

Steve was an accomplished and talented sound engineer who built his career working with many famous musical acts. Steve began his career as a sound engineer at the EFX production show at the MGM. From there, Steve had the pleasure of working at many Las Vegas properties including the Bellagio, Wynn Las Vegas and Encore Las Vegas. Steve was recognized twice as employee of the month for his work at the Bellagio and at the Wynn. Steve most recently worked as a private audio and visual design consultant for the New York based firm of Shen, Milson Wilke. Steve loved working with computers and all things technical. He was the go to guy when it came to sound mixing and technology. He was nicknamed Vandergyver for his ability to fix nearly anything at his job.

In June 2002, Steve married Miss Jill Knight. Steve and Jill enjoyed working on their home together and making it a special place for friends and family to gather often. Steve and Jill loved to travel, and their favorite destinations were Oahu and Cabo San Lucas.

In January 2005, Steve and Jill were blessed to welcome their son, Spencer Ryan. In November 2007, they were blessed again with the birth of their daughter, Morgan Elizabeth.

Steve was an amazing husband, father, son, brother and friend. He was kind, generous and loyal to all who knew him. In April 2010, Steve was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. With the spirit of a warrior, Steve endured surgeries and months of chemotherapy treatments. Although he was struggling with his illness, Steve continued to work from home and maintain a positive and courageous attitude.

Steves family would like to thank Dr. Robert Whitehead and the countless nurses and technicians who cared for Steve at the Nevada Cancer Institute and Nathan Adelson Hospice, for their compassion and support during the final year of his life. Steves family would also like to recognize Steves employer, Shen, Milson Wilke, for their amazing support and loyalty to Steve and his family. Steves wife Jill, would like to express her deepest gratitude to their friends, family and coworkers for the enormous love and support.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, William Francis Vandervort. Steve is survived by his mother, Helen McKelvey brother, Jeffery Heidi Vandervort wife, Jill Knight Vandervort son, Spencer and daughter, Morgan.
