Sybil Fanny Stenzel

September 16, 1942 — May 22, 2019

Sybil Fanny Stenzel, age 76, passed away on May 22, 2019, in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Sybil was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on September 16, 1942, to Sylvia and Charles Daien.  She grew up in Winnipeg with her sister Zoradelle.  In 1963, at the age of 21, she moved to Los Angeles, CA, joining her paternal grandmother, aunts and uncles, and cousins.  There she worked as a bookkeeper and was active in B’nai B’rith Young Adults where she met her husband of 52 years, Stewart Stenzel.  The two were married in Los Angeles on December 3, 1966.  They had two children, Jeffery Earl Stenzel, and Tamara Francine Stenzel, who they raised in Orange County, CA.

In Southern California, Sybil was active in the Jewish community and always there to lend a helping hand whenever anyone needed it.  She held positions in B’nai B’rith Women, Hadassah, and Temple Beth Shalom Sisterhood in Santa Ana.  She actively supported temple youth programs and Southwestern Region B’nai B’rith Youth Organization, where she served on the BBYO Adult Advisory Board.

For many years, she was a classroom aide for local elementary schools where she assisted children with disabilities.  From 1980 to 1991, she was the office manager for Temple Beth Ohr in La Mirada, CA.

In 2002, Sybil and Stewart moved to an active adult community in Las Vegas, NV.  And active she was—volunteering at the Red Rock Canyon Visitors Center, for local political campaigns, and in the Las Vegas Jewish Community.

For the last five years of her life, she was a joy to everyone around her at Royal Springs Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Las Vegas. She was always happy and had a smile on her face.  She loved her friends and the caring Royal Springs, staff. The Stenzel family is truly grateful for the good care and warmth displayed by the Royal Springs staff and especially her lead CNA who cared for her all five years.

Sybil will be remembered as a devoted and caring wife and mother, dedicated to her community and all those around her.  She was able to find joy no matter what she faced and lived every day with a smile on her face, even as she was saying good-bye.

Sybil is survived by her husband, Stewart Stenzel; her children, Jeffrey Stenzel (Ni Wu-Stenzel) and Tamara Stenzel (Dan Kostecka); and her three grandchildren, Marcelo, Michael and David.
