Sylvia Grace Harley, 1935-2021

Sylvia Grace Harley (born Sylvia Grace Winn), 85, formerly of Lockport, New York, passed away June 25, 2021, in Henderson, Nevada.

​

She was born in Toronto, Ontario to the late Ethel and Frederick Winn. Sylvia graduated from Central Technical High School in Toronto, Ontario and continued her studies at Bryant and Stratton in Buffalo, New York.

Sylvia married the late Willie Harley in 1958 and moved to Lockport, New York to start their family. She started her career with Bell Canada in Ontario and followed a similar career path in Western New York, working for NYNEX (now Verizon Communications, Inc.) for 30 years. She remained very active in retirement with activities at the senior center, line dancing, socializing with friends, and as an avid follower of sports. Most importantly, Sylvia was immensely proud of her children and her grandchildren, whom she affectionately called “my grands.”

Sylvia is survived by three children: Richard Harley of Atlanta, Georgia; Dr. Carolyn Matzinger, with her husband, Carter, of Henderson, Nevada; and Cherylyn Harley LeBon, with her husband, Ken, of Washington, D.C.  She is also survived by six grandchildren: Anthony Akil Sharp, Michael Harley, Marcea Harley, Harley Matzinger, Riley LeBon, and Seth LeBon. Sylvia leaves five remaining siblings and numerous nieces and nephews throughout the United States and Canada.

She was predeceased by her husband, Willie Harley, in 1969.

The family will hold a celebration of Sylvia’s life at Davis Funeral Home, 6200 South Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada 89119 on July 24th at 11:00 AM PDT (2:00 PM EDT). Flowers can be sent by July 23rd to The Harley Family, c/o Davis Funeral Home.
