Tedla Abay, 51, of Las Vegas, passed away on December 22, 2017 in Las Vegas.
Tedla was born in Mekele, Ethiopia to Araya Abay and Tsege G. Hiwet on February 21, 1966.
Tedla moved from Ethiopia in the early eighties to Fort Worth, Texas. He attended Job Corp, where he picked up many trades. Tedla then made another move to San Diego, California in 1988. While living in California, Tedla made many friends, he spent a lot of his time at his brothers Kahasay's restaurant, Red Sea. He then moved to Las Vegas where he met his wife Alem. In Vegas, he worked as a cab driver. Tedla absolutely enjoyed cooking, cracking jokes and was a math wiz. He also helped many people in the Ethiopian community by giving them rides to their appointments, acting as a translator and even assisted with finding jobs.
Tedla passed away at Spring Valley Hospital on December 22, 2017. He will be missed by many including his 6 children and his one grandson.
Tedla Abay is survived by his wife, Alem Abay, his children, Almaz Bekele, Yonase Bekele, Sarah Bekele, Emnate Bekele, Kaleab Bekele and Leilani Bekele, and his grandson, Edward Thomas Jr.
