The family of Thelma would like to express their sincere
gratitude and many thanks to all that stood by us and with us
through our time of sorrow. We are grateful for your many acts
of love, prayers, kindness and words of encouragement. It is
with heartfelt prayers that God will shower you with his
abundant grace.

Thelma Grey Shipman Gaines, daughter of Mr. Charlie Shipman Sr. and Mrs.
Evelyn A. Jones Shipman was born March 22,1948 in Columbus County, Whiteville
NC and departed this life on Saturday, May 28,2022 at her home peacefully in Las
Vegas, NV.

She received her elementary education at the Farmers Union Elementary School,
Clarkton NC and Artesia High School where she graduated. Thelma also attended
The Bladen Tech School in Elizabethtown, NC where she graduated with a nursing
degree.

She was employed with Premier Living Convalescent Center, Lake Waccamaw NC.
The Elizabethtown Nursing Home, Elizabethtown NC and The Department of
Aging in Columbus County, Whiteville NC.

Thelma accepted Christ at an early age where she severed diligently on the choir,
the usher board and several other auxiliary duties at Welches Creek Missionary
Baptist Church, Whiteville NC until her health declined. Thelma moved to Las
Vegas NV 7 1/2 years ago.

She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters and one son. Coretta (Bobby)
Menser of Las Vegas, NV, Thelma Elizabeth Lewis aka Liz of Whiteville, NC,
Yolanda (Matellas Sr.) Mccoy of Whiteville, NC, LaWanda (Paul) Alston of Las
Vegas, NV. Richard (Allicia) Garcia of Clarksville, TN. Eleven Grandchildren: James
(TX), Jonathan (NV), Kristan (NC), Matthew (NC), Corey (NC), Malanda (NC),
Matellas Jr. (NC), Brandon (FL), Cambreque (NV), Darius (NV) & Shakeria (NV).
Ten Great Grandchildren also with Three on the way. One sister Grace Neal
George, one brother Leander Shipman aka Buck of Whiteville, NC. Four aunts, a
host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents Charlie Shipman Sr. and Evelyn A. Jones
Shipman, brothers Charlie Shipman Jr, Morris Shipman, Charles Eugene Shipman
and Odell Jones. One granddaughter Detress DeVonte Menser.

A celebration of life will be announced later. Thelma will be laid to rest in the
North Carolina area.
