Thomas Matthew Hausman March 31, 1953 - January 16, 2019
Tom threw out his last pitch with family by his side on January 16, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 65.
Thomas Matthew was born in Mobridge, South Dakota to Milton and Betty Hausman (Jerry Oxner) on March 31, 1953. Shortly thereafter, Milton moved his family to California seeking better opportunities for his children. Tom was one of eight ...Robert Keith (Janet ), Paul Douglas, Jack Michael, Lynette Marie (Clifford Moore), Cyndi Ann (John Grant), John David, and Steven Joseph.
Tom fell in love with the game of baseball in Covina, California. He was a talented young athlete which allowed him to be a part of many successful seasons beginning with PeeWee, Little League, Pony, Teeners, American Legion, and All Star Championship games.
Tom moved from California to Las Vegas in his freshman year to further his dreams, goals, and opportunities. He lived with Aunt MariEllen and Fred Fredrickson, and was guided in sports by Jack and Terry Mannion. Tom was a hard working athlete, and was even selected to the 1970-71 All State and All American Basketball Team playing for Valley High School.
Having great success in basketball and offers to play college basketball upon graduation... baseball was still his true passion. On June 8, 1971, as a senior in school, he was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers...working hard on A, AA, and AAA teams... and finally the Majors.
Tom established a name for himself in the game. On November 21, 1977, he signed with the New York Mets as their first free agent to sign. Tom had much success in his career even though he battled through major medical setbacks. Toms last appearance was on September 30, 1982, successfully completing ten years of baseball in the Major Leagues and eligible for retirement.
During his baseball years, Tom traveled to different countries playing winter ball and seeking new adventures and experiences. Upon retirement Tom was an active member of both Major League Baseball Association (MLBPA) and Lifetime Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA), as well as long time member of Jesters #191.
Tom married Renee Parsons in 1976 and together they had one son, Casey Thomas. Casey was Tom's pride and joy....making his last 34 years filled with the incredible memories they shared together through traveling, high school activities, and college sports. Casey was the first Hausman to receive a BA College Degree!
Tom is survived by many friends, fans, relatives, and family....we all knew him as a loving, kind, humble, and giving individual...always ready to have a good time!
Tom was greeted by his father, Milton (1995), brothers Robert Keith (2015) and Paul Douglas (1994), and many special relatives and friends that have passed before him.
At Tom's request, there are no formal services planned. Memorials may be given to a youth baseball program of your choice.
