Thomas Bruce Helvin, 75, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away on August 22, 2021.
Tom was born in Queens, New York, to Alfred and Helen Helvin on May 10, 1946. He served honorably as an electronics mechanic in the U.S. Navy from 1967 - 1971, during which time he received a National Defense Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and a Vietnam Service Medal. After his tenure in the military, he was an electronic technician for EG&G at the Nevada Test Site, from which he retired.
Tom is recognized as a loyal, loving, trusting, light-hearted man who knew how to create a foundation where there wasn't one. He demonstrated how to build and nurture long-lasting relationships, establishing himself as a forever friend and family member. He was caring, wise, and created strong bonds with those he loved.
Where there was chaos, he brought calm. Where there was poverty, he provided security. Where there was neglect, he offered affection. Where there was pain, he brought comfort. Where there was fear, he offered safety. Where there was inexperience, he shared wisdom. Where there was uncertainty, he instilled peace.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Helen Helvin, and is survived by his significant other, JoAnn Scaduto Miloro; his brother, Jim Helvin; sister Judy Helvin-Dalley; and his five children, including Andrea Doran, Paul Helvin, Lori Ballen, Wendi Lord, and Jeff Helvin. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of who knew him adoringly as "Pappaw."
