Thomas ''Tom'' Frank Maiola, age 81, a resident of Las Vegas, NV, died May 10, 2024 at a local hospital. Born in Bronx, NY, he had lived in Las Vegas since the mid-1990s. Tom had served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1969 earning the National Defense Medal. He started his family in the Bronx, NY on September 17, 1966, marrying Irene Ranavaro. They welcomed the birth of their daughter, Suzanne, in 1968. Tom worked for 26 years for UPS as a delivery driver building and maintaining relationships with co-workers and customers that lasted a lifetime. After retirement, he worked for Cheyenne Auto Parts and would drop by frequently bringing gifts and donuts.
Tom had a simple joy in life: connecting with others over a cup of coffee. He had a penchant for seeking out hole-in-the-wall spots, where he could immerse himself in the company of others and forge new friendships. His genuine interest in people and his warm, approachable nature made him a beloved figure wherever he went. He possessed a remarkable gift for nurturing relationships and maintaining contact with the people he met over years and distance. Early on, Tom proudly cheered for the Yankees. However, as time passed, Tom's allegiance shifted, and he found a new team to passionately support: The Angels.
He remarried in the mid-1980s to Frances Maiola and they were together until her death in 2010. Tom had a deeply sentimental side, particularly when it came to honoring his late wife, Frances. Every week without fail, Tom made a pilgrimage to Fran's grave, tenderly placing flowers at her resting place. Over the years, he amassed a large collection of flowers, each one carefully chosen and lovingly tended to. For Tom, the act of tending to Fran's grave and nurturing his collection of flowers was a sacred duty, a way to keep her memory alive and honor the bond they shared.
With a natural knack for tinkering, he possessed a remarkable ability to fix and repair things, often finding creative solutions to even the most daunting of challenges. No matter the problem, Tom approached each task with determination and a can-do attitude. His home was meticulously organized.
He truly loved animals. He fed the birds and had two dogs at one time, then a cat ''Winkey'' and his last cat ''Frankie'' - who his daughter, Suzanne now has.
He was very gracious and generous and would drop off food for the less fortunate (and their pets too). He donated freely to many causes and was the type of guy to give a Christmas card to the postal carrier, drop off cookies to the doctor, and give freely of his time and efforts to those he knew.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, and his sister, Serena Levye. He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Kirby-Smith of Buena Park, CA, and a sister, Amy Campone of Fort Myers, FL; 2 nieces and a nephew and several step-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 2 PM at Davis Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from noon to 2 PM. Tom will be entombed next to his wife, Frances at Davis Memorial Park following the services.
