Thomas Sarno, 67, passed away unexpectedly on January 24, 2025, in Henderson, NV, Thomas was born on August 15, 1957, in Toledo, Ohio to Alphonso T. and Katherine (Tripodi) Sarno, and he resided in Clark County, NV, for the past 63 years. 

Thomas is preceded in death by his father, Alphonso “Al” Sarno, his mother, Katherine “Kay” Sarno, his Uncle Joe “Jolly Joe” Sarno, his Aunt Josephine Kneisley, and his Aunt Mary A. VanWormer. 

Thomas is survived by his wife, Catherine (Sweaton) Sarno, Uncle Robert Kneisley, Toledo, OH, cousins Rick Kneisley, Port Clinton, OH, Mary Ibe, Fort Wayne, IN, Kris Hawk, Seville, OH, Kay Carroll, Sunbury, OH, Bill VanWormer, Berkey, OH, Jim VanWormer, Temperance, MI, Marie Webster, Temperance, MI, and Bernie Quilter, Oregon, OH. 

Tom welcomed the opportunity to chat with everyone, including strangers. Highlights of Tom’s conversations often included his deep-found interest in music, gluten free pizza, and sports, especially hockey and soccer. He was an avid Las Vegas Golden Knights fan, attending numerous home games with friends. Tom relished listening to live music and running sound for bands. He always had a “Song of the Day” to share. In 1978, he began his lifelong career as an audio engineer at Southern Nevada’s PBS affiliate, KLVX, Channel 10. During his thirty-six year tenure, Tom received awards for his contributions to Vegas PBS educational programs such as KLVX Ready to Learn and Reading Rainbows. Tom’s credits included a variety of talk shows, election programs, and music specials. As a member of I.A.T.S.E. Local 702, Tom ran the audio boards in several Las Vegas showrooms. Tom added freelance audio man with Mr. Camera, Inc. to his resume in 1981. He ran audio for such events as UNLV Basketball, Boxing main events, and game shows, as well as nationally syndicated television such as Entertainment Tonight and A&E Biography. In 1998, Tom was inducted into the Nevada Broadcaster’s Association Hall of Fame. Tom attended UNLV and played for their men’s soccer team. He transferred to the Full Sail Center of the Performing Arts where he refined his audio skills. Tom was a member of the first graduating class at the Full Sail Center of the Performing Arts.

Tom’s life was a blessing. He was a loving and caring son, nephew, cousin, friend and husband. Our memories of Tom will be treasured. He was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure. 

Visitation, from 1 to 2 p.m., will take place at Davis Funeral Homes & Memorial Park, 6200 S Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Services will be immediately following Visitation. Entombment will begin at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to your favorite charity or an act of kindness to your neighbor, family/friend or a stranger would be honoring the memory of Tom Sarno.
