IN LOVING MEMORY OF VIOLA WASHINGTON
SUNRISE SUNSET
July 12, 1944 February 5, 2021
Psalm 121
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
REFLECTIONS OF LIFE FOR VIOLA WASHINGTON
VIOLA KENNEDY, 4th child of 6 children, was born in the year of our Lord, July 12, 1944 into the loving union of Thornton and Matilda Kennedy, in Vidalia, Louisiana. This rare and unusual birth performed by midwife Ms. Claire took 4 days to accomplish risking the life of VIOLA’S mother Matilda as well as the unborn child. It was by God’s miraculous power that both the mother and child survived the birthing and the hand of God remained upon their lives granting them both good health most of their entire earthly life.
As a God-fearing young lady, VIOLA KENNEDY accepted Christ at an early age and was water baptized by the late Sam Woods, Pastor, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, in Vidalia Louisiana. This outward profession of faith came without hesitation for VIOLA had a special love for God, His kingdom, and His people.
While gracefully advancing through her years of education, VIOLA became a lover of basketball and utilized her skills and talent by joining the girls’ basketball team at Sawyer Elementary School and Concordia Parish Training School, Vidalia Louisiana, which became a great success in her life. VIOLA proceeded on with her education and became a high school graduate of Concordia Parish Training School in 1961 and a year later relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1962.
After relocating to Las Vegas VIOLA branched out into the workforce with her first employment at Western Linen Laundry furthering onto the Hacienda Hotel, retiring from REECO and Bally’s Hotel in 2007. Her favorite place of employment was REECO as a Reproduction Machine Operator allowing her to constantly meet new people where she could release her gift of love and passion to others through her laughter and good will. Through the furtherance of her service VIOLA joined the Christian Family of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church and served in the office of the Secretary.
In October 1966 Frank Washington and Viola Kennedy (Washington) became one in marriage. This union brought forth two loving, caring children: Sandra Paulette Washington, Rhonda Faye Washington. She will always be remembered as a devoted mother, faithful wife, faithful in her labor, full of joy and laughter and a lover of her family.
Preceding VIOLA in death are her parents Thornton and Matilda Kennedy; two siblings Roosevelt Kennedy, Theodore Kennedy.
VIOLA leaves to mourn and cherish her memory: her two children, Sandra Paulette Washington, Rhonda Faye Burke (Shannon La Shawn) of Las Vegas, Nevada, two sisters; Carnell Washington, Willie Wade (James) of Las Vegas, one brother, James Kennedy (Bobbie Nell) of Vidalia, Louisiana; three grand-children, Branti Franklin Boggess, Alemar Delano Collins, Skylar LaShawn Burke; a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends.

“COME WITH ME”
God saw her getting tired, a cure was not to be. He wrapped her in His loving arms and whispered “Come with me”. She suffered much in silence, her spirit did not bend. She faced her pain with courage, until the very end. She tried so hard to stay with us, but her fight was not in vain, God took her to His loving home and freed her from the pain.
