Virginia Mae Silcott

December 25, 1929 — January 7, 2018

Virginia (Ginnie) May Silcott, 93, died on January 7, 2018, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was the wife of James (Jim) Silcott and mother to John and Vicki.
Ginnie was born at home on December 25, 1924, in Battle Creek, Michigan to Carl and Marietta Shaffer Miller. She graduated from Central High School in Battle Creek. Following high school, she worked in retail sales in Battle Creek.
At age 20, Ginnie joined the Navy and rose to the rank of Seaman First Class at the Naval Training School, Bronx, New York Ship's Company, where she supervised barracks and recruits, maintained discipline, and did master-at-arms detail.
After Honorable Discharge from the Navy in 1945, Ginnie began working at Percy Jones Army Hospital in Battle Creek, which treated veterans returning from the war. This experience sparked her interest and love of the medical profession. Throughout her life, she worked for several doctors in a variety of office and patient support positions. She also volunteered for military and civilian organizations throughout her working life.
In 1949, she met and married James Lee Silcott. After his 1968 retirement from the Air Force in Roswell, New Mexico, they moved to Las Vegas, where he managed the North Las Vegas Airport. They were happily married for 36 years until his early death in 1985 from cancer.
Ginnie had a passion for dancing and music throughout her life. Her dancing passion ranged from competing in state dancing competitions as a teenager in Michigan, to dancing with Jim at parties and events, to dancing in production numbers, and to cutting-a-rug at 90 years old at a grandson's wedding in Texas. She was also a member of the Tri-Tones singing group that performed at special events.
Ginnie also had a strong affection and love for animals, especially small dogs. Her most special were Schoshi I, Schoshi II and most recently Coco. They all held a special place in her heart.
Ginnie sat proudly at the top of five generations, which is unusual today. She is survived by:
