Wilma Woods Ficklin was born to Jimmy Woods II and Fannie Elizabeth Vanross October 24, 1945 in St. Joseph Louisiana. Two years later they moved to Tallulah, Louisiana where she grew up, and graduated from Rueben McCall High School in 1963. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1963 where she met Shedrack Ficklin. They were married January 31, 1965. To that union were born three children: Sharon Deneen Ficklin, Shedrack Ficklin Jr., and Kenneth Eric Ficklin.
She acquired a Lab Assistant certification in 1973, a business license from the city of North Las Vegas, a Diploma from Dana McKay Business College. She was employed for over 33 years in the medical profession. For nearly 20 years of that time she was a Customer Services Trainer of a Medical Laboratory overseeing a variety of jobs; training more representatives in the history of that company.
Wilma was baptized into Christ August 3, 1983 at the Highland / North Las Vegas Church of Christ in North Las Vegas, Nevada; where she has worshipped for over thirty years. During this time God blessed her to write over 10 books. Her books included poetry, short plays, and a few songs, all pertaining to the gospel of Christ. She has sold books to the general public, at conventions, local congregations, and a few libraries.
Wilma was patient, kind, loyal, truly a person you could trust. She has tried her hand at a number of things: teaching, cooking, sewing, house painting, plumbing, stucco, crafts, gardening, writing, jewelry making, and citizen bond radio. If there was something she thought she could do, she tried it. Stucco and plumbing she vowed not to make that a practice.
Preceding her in death were her parents Jimmy Woods II and Fannie Elizabeth Ross.
She leaves to mourn her husband Shedrack Ficklin Sr. Three children: Sharon Deneen Ficklin, Shedrack Ficklin Jr., Kenneth Eric Ficklin of Las Vegas, Nevada. Siblings: Lela Toldson, Willie Risper (Odessa), Jesse Woods (Bessie), all of Riverside, California. Villian Jones (LB), Jimmy Woods III, Annie R. Elliott (Andrew), Rosie Monroe (Robert), Charles R. Woods (Barbara), all of North Las Vegas, Nevada. Fannie Gorman Dix (Frank) of Pahrump, Nevada. Her Spiritual Family, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.
