Wilma Jean Stauffer, 82, died on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Vintage Park at San Martin in Las Vegas, NV.
Mrs. Stauffer was born October 9, 1930 in St. Marie, IL, the daughter of Merle and Nina Zerkel Yost. Mrs. Stauffer is preceded in death by her brother, Samuel Yost, and her sister, Virginia Winter. She is remembered as a loving mother, wife and music teacher who touched so many lives with her inspirational spirit with a wonderful sense of humor. Her inspiration came from her love of teaching and her strong educational background derived from her family history.
She grew up in Newton, IL, where her father was the Superintendant of the Jasper County School District. After Mr. Yost retired, he pursued a career as a farmer. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a degree in Music Education in 1952. She married Norris Swede Stauffer on October 10, 1954 in Newton, IL. The lived in St. Louis, MO, Quincy, IL and settled in Pittsfield, IL in 1957 until 1985. Mrs. Stauffer traveled teaching music in Pittsfield and rural schools throughout Pike County. In addition to her teaching career, she was the choir director at the First Christian Church and started the high school swing choir. She also was the music director for both the high school and community theaters.
After retiring, she and her husband relocated to Caliente, NV where she continued to serve as a choir director at the Community Methodist Church. They later relocated Cedar City, Utah and settled in Las Vegas, NV where they have lived since 1997.
She is survived by: her husband, Norris daughter, Diane Hogan Las Vegas, NV and sons, Craig Stauffer Memphis, TN and Jeff Stauffer San Diego, CA. Her five grandchildren are: Blake Stauffer Bonsal, CA, Beau Stauffer Big Bear City, CA, Brianne Stauffer Santa Barbara, CA, Sean Hogan Las Vegas, NV and Kendall Hogan Las Vegas, NV.
Visitation is from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 22nd at the Davis Funeral Home located a 6200 South Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89119. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Please sign the guest book at www.davisfuneralservices.com.
